The Sustainable Wedding.

weddings...

Weddings are great, it's a day where it's all about you.. and your significant other I suppose. It's a day that you get to wear a gorgeous dress, feel like a princess, and drink prosecco at 10am and not be frowned upon.

If, like me, you are getting married in the near future (yay!), but are worried about the negative impact your wedding could have on the environment, or you're just looking to cut down on the cost,  I've come up with some tips on how to have a more sustainable wedding and save a few bob in the process!

The Invites/Stationary:

For more sustainable stationary, use a company that specializes in recycled paper. I found a few on Etsy that were very good!

You could also make your own using recycled pages of your favourite love stories or poems. It's a nice personal touch and it could be a bit of fun for you putting them together. Pinterest would be ideal to get ideas from, I've pretty much planned my entire wedding using Pinterest!
Lastly, you can get recycled seeded paper, after the wedding is done guests can take their place cards home, soak them in water, plant them and flowers will grow, again stumbled upon this on Pinterest and was amazed!

The Dress :

Now, realistically, you're only going to wear your wedding dress once. So rather than spend a small fortune on a dress that will spend most of its time in your closet, never seeing the light of day again, why not rent your dress? Plenty of bridal shops offer a rental service and it's often a little cheaper!

The second option is buying a preloved/second-hand dress. Barnardos, a children's charity, have two bridal shops located in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin and Wexford! There is also sellmyweddingdress.ie where you can buy and sell preloved wedding dresses!

Another idea I love is upcycling a family members old wedding dresses for yourself, give an old dress a fresh new look all while keeping it in the family! Unfortunately for me, my mum got married in the 80's and wore a dress that no amount of upcycling could help (sorry mam) .

Wedding Favors:

For the wedding favors there is so much you can do! You can take the DIY route and make small little gifts for your guests. A friend of mine made her own jam and chutneys as favors. You could make your own soaps or bath bombs (everyone loves bath bombs).

Another bomb idea for wedding favors are Bee Bombs. Bees are super important to the environment and they really need our help right now. Bee bombs help spread native wildflowers that the bees need to survive so it's a win-win situation.

You could also go the charitable route, instead of gifting them something, give to a charity you care about in their name.

So that's all my sustainable tips for now, but I'll definitely do another wedding related post again when I've actually started planning my wedding... I should really get on that.

Yours sustainably ,
